Summer 2023 Reading
Each student in grades K-12 will be required to read a grade level standard-based book this summer to ensure our scholars maintain their connection with reading. Each student must purchase a hard copy of the book so that they can do their marginal notations and other related reader strategies can be used.
K-2 Summer Reading Assignment
Book Choices:
After reading one of the books listed above, complete one of the following activities.

Create a comic strip to summarize the book you have read.

Create a picture timeline of all the events in the book, labeling each of the events to provide facts, definitions, or important points taking place.

Create a poster about the book using one or two of the following media: finger- paint, watercolors, crayons, chalk, real materials. Write one to three sentences to explain your visual representation.
Grades 3-5 Summer Reading Assignment

Create a brochure advertising the book. The brochure must include:

Cover Include the following:

The title of the book

A picture of the cover

Inside the brochure:

Characters: Include the names and a short description of each of the characters.

Timeline of events: Create a timeline that explains the main events that occurred in the text.

Facts: Include facts about the sinking of the Titanic found in the book.

Create a timeline using drawings, magazine cutouts, pictures, and labels to show the main events, and how these events contribute to the meaning of the text.

Create a PowerPoint “pitch” to a producer explaining why the story or the concept would or would not make a great movie.
